Tom Bischof receives Fritz Walter Medal
For almost 20 years, the Fritz Walter Medal has been the greatest individual honour in German youth football. Every year, the best players from certain age groups are honoured for their performances. TSG Hoffenheim players have repeatedly attracted attention in the past. The most recent example is Tom Bischof, who in mid-October was honoured with the Fritz Walter Gold Medal as the best young player born in 2005. The medal was presented to him by Lars Stindl during the home game against Borussia Mönchengladbach.
"We are very happy for Tom. He is a prime example of TSG's approach of identifying talent early and developing it carefully into the professional ranks. This path, which in Tom's case led from our children's perspective teams and the academy to the first team, is a fundamental part of our DNA," said Frank Kramer, TSG's sporting director.
Despite being only 19 years old, Tom Bischof has already gained plenty of experience in professional football. The top talent made his Bundesliga debut in March 2022 at the age of 16 and has been training with the Bundesliga team for three years. The midfielder, who has been with TSG since 2015, is proud of his biggest individual honour to date: "I was of course delighted and it means a lot to me. It's the reward for all the hard work over the past few years. The medal serves as an incentive to achieve even more objectives."
