The end of a gymnastics era

Gudrun Berberig is something of an institution at TSG Hoffenheim. After more than five decades, the now 84-year-old is retiring from her role as gymnastics teacher. Every Tuesday, Berberig and her friends met in the hall to do gymnastics together. Even at an advanced age, she always "got her ladies moving", as head of department Ariane Weber explained.

In the middle of December, Gudrun Berberig led her final session. It wasn't only the 84-year-old who had tears in her eyes when it was time to say goodbye. "It's thanks to Gudrun Berberig that this group of ladies have being doing gymnastics together for so many years, and are still so active at their age," said Weber. "That makes me proud, and it's nice to see that so many friendships have formed through it."

A successor has already been announced. Gisela Kühner will take over the gymnastics group after 56 years under Gudrun Berberig's leadership.
