Stach: "It was really not good enough"
Alexander Prass: "There is no excuse for the performance today. Today, as in Braga, we got off to a bad start. We lost the game in the first half if you concede two early goals. That cannot be. We're making life difficult for ourselves. We have to be on it from the beginning. In our system, everyone must give 100 percent, otherwise it will not work. In the second half, things were a little better. We were showing some positive approaches. But overall, we were not dangerous enough and deserved to be beaten. We are still at the beginning and need to internalise the processes. Despite everything, we are confident. We all know that it was too little today."
Oliver Baumann: "Going in, you know exactly what to expect here, but we didn't get to grips with them for 90 minutes. We were often one step too late, took too long to think, and that meant that we a lot of duels and second balls went Mainz's way. They wanted it more than we did. Obviously, we still need time to get the processes in better shape."
Anton Stach: "Mainz were extremely effective, as you would expect from them. They were just better, more alert and did things faster. I can't explain it. It was really not good enough today. In our system, if not everyone gets involved, it will not work. And case in point: the last two games did not go well. We have to get to the stage that it is automatic. We don't have much time for that, but the basics can and must always be there. They must not be missing in any game. It was worse today than in Braga. The first half was extremely bad today, the second half was bad."
Adam Hložek: "We had a very bad start to the game, as we did in the Europa League. I can't explain it, but that wasn't good enough. We need to be more alert, get into the game better, play more passes, put in more crosses, carve out more opportunities. We didn't play our game today. We now need to continue working, to get better from game to game."
Christian Ilzer: "It was a well-deserved victory for Mainz. They are where we want to get to. Mainz were much more effective and intense in the duels. They were clearly superior to us. We had real problems. It got better in the second half, but we were not really dangerous, except for the Nsoki chance. We couldn't get into the game and were too inaccurate in the final third. It takes time, but we will follow the path very consistently."
Bo Henriksen (head coach, Mainz 05): "Football is a lot of fun right now. It was a very good game from us. I'm delighted that our fans can celebrate. We want to keep it going. The way we performed was incredibly good. The courage on the ball was very good. I can praise the whole team. We have so many good footballers. That's the key."
