#FCUTSG: Efficiently hunting records

TSG Hoffenheim will be away to 1. FC Union Berlin on Saturday (21 September at 15:30 CEST / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de). For the capital club, the start to the season has been rather successful with five points from three games. After the match against double-winners Bayer 04 (4-1 loss), TSG can now test themselves against a club of similar standing – and want to return to winning ways in Berlin after two defeats in the league. We have picked out some exciting facts on the clash in Köpenick.

Did you know that…

…Bo Svensson is still unbeaten as Union coach?

1. FC Union Berlin are unbeaten in five competitive matches, with new coach Bo Svensson in the dugout for the last four games of that run. The Danish coach has helped the team to achieve two draws and two victories, including qualification for the second round of the DFB-Pokal thanks to a 1-0 triumph away to Greifswalder FC.

…Andrej Kramarić is currently hunting records?

In the game against Leverkusen, TSG's Croatian attacking player extended Hoffenheim's club record for a player by registering at least one direct goal involvement in 10 Bundesliga matches in succession (11 goals and six assists). In addition, Andrej Kramarić has amassed more direct goal involvements (17) than any other Bundesliga player since the start of April. His closest rival is Leipzig player Lois Openda (10).

…the capital club have the best defence in the league?

1. FC Union Berlin have kept a clean sheet in their last two Bundesliga matches (a 0-0 draw away to RB Leipzig and a 1-0 win against FC St. Pauli prior to that) and conceded only one goal in their season-opening match in Mainz (1-1) – the best record in the division. Three league games without conceding a goal would be a first in the Köpenick club's history.

…both teams have a glaringly weak record from free-kicks?

Both TSG and Union are currently 43 matches without scoring a goal via a direct free-kick. The last time Hoffenheim and the Berlin outfit did so was on Matchday 28 of the 2022/23 season – for TSG, Andrej Kramarić got the goal in a 1-1 draw away to FC Bayern.

…TSG are very efficient in front of goal?

TSG have created seven so-called major opportunities in their first three league matches – and have scored five goals as a result. With a success rate of 71%, Hoffenheim have the second-best record in the league behind 1. FC Heidenheim (88%). 1. FC Union Berlin, meanwhile, are yet to convert any of their five major chances to date.
