Stach: "We must learn from this"
Marius Bülter: "We all envisaged that going differently. But ultimately it's a cup tie, we wanted to progress and we managed to do that. We actually made a good start to the match but us going behind then gave the opponent a push. It was insufficient in the second half, we created too little at that point. We then performed better in extra-time. We cannot be satisfied with the performance today. Luca saved the penalty at the end, so we can thank him. We expected a good opponent, they showed that. We didn't underestimate them in any way."
Anton Stach: "After this rollercoaster ride, progression is the only thing that counts. Würzburg did very, very well, we didn't – that's how a game like this happens. We now need to learn from this. Now we will prepare ourselves for the match against Holstein Kiel. We'll take a look at the mistakes today and will work hard in order to make a good start to the Bundesliga."
Pellegrino Matarazzo: "It was difficult work. We didn't start the game well but then had decent control in the first half, without really shining. It very clearly was not enough for what we intend to achieve in the second period. We created twice as many scoring chances in extra-time as we had in the first 90 minutes, then it was a different way of playing football. It speaks volumes for the team that they came back twice in this match and then went through too."
Markus Zschiesche (Würzburger Kickers coach): "We played very passionately, the lads got stuck in and worked as a team. We were hosting a Bundesliga club with quality, but we kept trying to press them. The longer the match went on, our energy levels dropped here and there. Our takeaway for the future can be the fact that it's difficult to win against us when we perform like we did today. The second conceded goal came too soon for us. We threw everything at it and you also need luck in a penalty shootout. We're proud of the lads, they were self-confident and present today."
