#FWKTSG: Würzburg re-match with cup expert Prass

TSG Hoffenheim will play their first competitive match of the 2024/25 season on Friday evening (18:00 CEST / Live Ticker at tsg-hoffenheim.de). A cup clash with Würzburger Kickers previously took place five years ago, and new signing Alexander has a flawless record in cup ties. We have picked out some exciting facts and statistics on the match.

Did you know that…

…the only previous clash between Würzburg and Hoffenheim was very exciting?

TSG Hoffenheim also faced a trip to Würzburger Kickers in the first round of the DFB-Pokal back in the 2019/20 season, in which they only triumphed following a penalty shootout (2-2 after 90 minutes, 3-3 after extra-time, 5-4 in the penalty shootout). Oliver Baumann saved two Würzburg spot-kicks.

…Würzburg frequently go to extra-time?

Würzburger Kickers have contested 13 DFB-Pokal ties to date, six of which have gone to extra-time. The Lower Franconians have won on three of those occasions, but they have never previously won a cup tie in 90 minutes.

…Hoffenheim goals are almost guaranteed?

TSG Hoffenheim have faced an opponent from outside the top three divisions on nine occasions in the DFB-Pokal, scoring an average of 3.8 goals per game in those matches. The 2012/13 campaign was the only time that Hoffenheim did not progress against such an opponent, losing 4-0 to Berliner AK.

…TSG have recently always been victorious in the first round?

Hoffenheim have won each of their last eight first-round ties, though four of them did require additional effort. Two matches went to extra-time, while TSG reached the next round following a penalty shootout (as they did in Würzburg in 2019) on two occasions.

…Alexander Prass is a cup expert?

New signing Alexander Prass has become an Austrian Cup winner with SK Sturm Graz in both of the last two seasons. The wide player has played 14 cup ties to date in his professional career – and won them all.
