Beier leaves TSG Hoffenheim

Germany international Maximilian Beier, 21, is leaving TSG Hoffenheim to join Bundesliga rivals Borussia Dortmund.

"Maxi has experienced a meteoric rise over the past season and has attracted the attention of many top clubs in Germany and abroad. We are all proud of his fantastic development from youth player to Germany international. However, he has now made it clear to the club that he wants to take the opportunity to take the next step in his career and leave TSG," said Frank Kramer, TSG's current sporting director. "We can only repeat it again and again: even though it is difficult for us and the fans to accept such departures, there is no question that TSG is dependent on these transfer revenues and that this is exactly the path that this club has always taken and will continue to take. Maximilian Beier's development is emblematic of the philosophy of TSG Hoffenheim. We are constantly discovering and training outstanding talent at our youth academy and then moving them on to top international clubs. We naturally wish Maxi all the best for the future, both on and off the pitch," explains Kramer.

"I have an enormous debt of gratitude to TSG and will never forget the club and the many people here," says Maximilian Beier. "But I wanted to take this opportunity and I'm really looking forward to the new challenge. Thanks to the education I received at TSG, I feel very well prepared and am looking forward to the next step in my career. I would like to thank everyone who invested patience and hard work in my development at an extraordinary club. TSG are the perfect club for a young player to develop in a calm and focused manner."

Maximilian Beier moved from the youth team of Energie Cottbus to the Kraichgau in 2018 at the age of just 15 and followed the typical TSG path at the academy, where he developed from a young talent into an established and undisputed Bundesliga star. After the 21-year-old striker had already made a number of appearances in the Bundesliga and the Europa League in the 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 seasons, Beier was loaned out by TSG to ambitious second-tier club Hannover 96 for two years. It proved to be a mutually beneficial loan for all parties. Beier not only gained a lot of playing time at a high level, as hoped, but also scored several goals in the Bundesliga 2.

After returning from Hannover, Beier experienced an almost meteoric rise at Hoffenheim last season. From being a substitute at the start of the season, the 21-year-old striker advanced to become the TSG's star performer and top scorer within a few weeks. In 33 Bundesliga matches, Beier scored 16 goals and also set up three more. In February and March 2024, Beier was voted "Rookie of the Month" in the Bundesliga twice in a row. Also in March, national-team coach Julian Nagelsmann called up the young striker for the first time in his career for the German senior national team. Beier made his debut on 3 June against Ukraine, and shortly afterwards the Brandenburg-born player also made it into the final squad for the recently concluded EURO in Germany.

In total, Beier made 42 Bundesliga appearances for TSG (16 goals / three assists), two in the DFB-Pokal and two in the Europa League (two goals / one assist). During his loan spell at Hannover 96, the striker played 63 times in the Bundesliga 2 (10 goals / six assists) and five times in the DFB-Pokal (five goals / one assist). Beier made two appearances for the German national team since his debut in June of this year, and previously played five times for the Germany U21s (two goals).
