Ozan Kabak tears cruciate ligament

Ozan Kabak tore the cruciate ligament in his right knee in a challenge during the first half of the Türkiye national team's pre-European Championship friendly against Italy in Bologna (0-0). The serious injury means that the 24-year-old defender of Bundesliga football club TSG Hoffenheim will not only miss out on the European Championships in Germany with Türkiye, but will also be unavailable to TSG for many months.

"It's unbelievably bitter news and a personal tragedy for Ozan. He had earned himself a starting spot in central defence for the Türkiye national team thanks to his consistently strong performances for us at club level last season and now had the big dream of playing in a European Championship for his home country in his adopted homeland. The fact that this dream has been shattered by such a serious injury a matter of days before the opening game of the European Championship makes the whole situation all the more dramatic," said TSG Managing Director Alexander Rosen, who continued: "It goes without saying that from this point onwards, we will support Ozan with all the means at our disposal and will remain consistently by his side on his challenging road back."

Ozan Kabak went to ground in the 38th minute of Türkiye's pre-European Championship friendly against Italy in Bologna following a challenge with Mateo Retegui and immediately clutched his right knee with a look of pain on his face. The 24-year-old Turk then had to be carried off the pitch on a stretcher and further examinations unfortunately revealed he had torn the cruciate ligament in his right knee.

We all wish you a speedy recovery, dear Ozan!
