Kramarić: "We can do even more"

Here's what the players and coaches said after the 3-1 win at 1. FC Köln.

Florian Grillitsch: "We defended a lot of crosses and took our chances ruthlessly going forward. That was the deciding factor today. Köln actually performed well, but our centre-backs played really well. It wasn't our best game from a footballing perspective, we could or even should have done several things better. Nine points from four matches is a good start, but the season still has a long way to go. We're on a good path. For my goal, I was initially frustrated that Maxi didn't get to the ball. I then simply went for it. You normally only score a goal like that once in your life.  If it happens again, I'll do a backflip. It was an enormously important goal to make it 2-0, but the victory is even more important than the goal. I really like playing in Cologne; so far, I've always won here with Hoffenheim."

Andrej Kramarić: "It was a super feeling to score so early. I believe I've never scored a goal so early. But you then have to realise that the game still has 90 minutes left. We had to survive a few dangerous situations, but we managed that and then got our reward through dream goals from Flo and Maxi. We're satisfied with the three points, but we can still do a lot more. We defended well; it's never easy to win in Cologne. But in our analysis, we'll look at what didn't work so well today, because we need to play even better football and operate better in possession of the ball, and simply be more courageous overall. We also made a good start last season, but we have a different mentality and a different character this year."

Pellegrino Matarazzo: "We immediately got into the game with the goal. But after that, we offered less and only reacted. Köln then performed well and pressed strongly. The goal for 2-0 came at a very good time for us; Köln were pushing before that. It went similarly in the second half, we had little control in the game. We have a lot of room for improvement, especially when it comes to second balls and the opposition's pressing. But we defended very well in the box. Today it was an important quality to win a game like this the dirty way. It makes me confident that we have a good team that has good energy. It was no coincidence that we started the game like that. The lads want to achieve something – just as the entire club does."

Steffen Baumgart (1. FC Köln coach): "It was really unnecessary and annoying to fall behind early on. We then applied a lot of pressure and had good situations in the penalty box. The second goal probably won't happen again this year, but the third goal was beautiful. But my boys did a lot, as I expect them to do. We didn't give up and kept trying. In some situations we lacked a bit of luck, but you can't rely on luck. One point from four games is few, too few for the way the boys perform."
