#BMGTSG: New season, new beginnings

TSG Hoffenheim are about to get their Bundesliga season up and running. Coach André Breitenreiter's team are up against Borussia Mönchengladbach in their opening match on Saturday (15:30 CET). TSG ended last season with a heavy defeat at Borussia Park but they will be hoping to lay the foundations for a successful season there this time. tsg-hoffenheim.de presents the most important facts and figures on #BMGTSG below.

Did you know that…

…Borussia are TSG's most frequent foe in professional football?

TSG Hoffenheim are preparing to face Borussia Mönchengladbach in a professional match for the 32nd time – more than they have gone head-to-head with any other team. TSG have the superior record, with 11 wins compared to eight defeats, while there have also been 12 draws.

…both teams are kicking off the season with a new coach?

Seven of the Bundesliga's 18 clubs switched head coaches over the summer break, including Gladbach and TSG. But this will not be the first time in Bundesliga history that two teams will have faced each other in back-to-back matches (Matchday 34 and Matchday 1) and both had different coaches in the dugout. That previously happened in 1965 between Bremen and Nuremberg, and in 1982 between Bielefeld and Leverkusen.

…Gladbach coaches tend to be successful in their first match?

The statistics bode well for new Borussia boss Daniel Farke: the last Gladbach coach who lost his first Bundesliga match in charge of the Foals was Bernd Krauss back in 1992. There have since been 20 different coaches in the hot seat and none of them have lost their first game.

…the men from Gladbach did not have their shooting boots on last season?

Only Bayern Munich had more shots at goal (673) in the Bundesliga last season than Borussia Mönchengladbach (496). But too few of those found their way into the back of the net, with the xG surpassing the actual number of goals scored by 10.8 the highest discrepancy between the two values of any Bundesliga club.

…TSG have made a good start to recent seasons?

TSG have won their opening match in both of the last two Bundesliga seasons, both away from home: 1. FC Cologne were beaten 3-2 in 2020, then TSG brought all three points back to the Kraichgau after demolishing FC Augsburg 4-0 in 2021. Gladbach, meanwhile, have not won any of their last three opening games.
