Schreuder: "We want to use our spaces"
Alfred Schreuder on…
…the opposition: "Peter Bosz mostly fields the same line-up with a double pivot and Kai Havertz in attacking midfield. They're very dangerous out wide and have a brilliant forward in Kevin Volland. I'm expecting them in a 4-2-3-1 system with lots of tempo going forward. Leverkusen are one of the top four clubs in Germany."
…the match on Saturday: "The spaces will be different compared to other teams. Consequently there could be more space for us. We want to use that. I'm expecting a similar match to our one against Dortmund on Matchday 17. They'll press us high; we need to be prepared for that. Our finishing needs to be as clinical as it was against Bremen."
…the Leverkusen trio with a TSG past: "It was difficult for Kerem Demirbay at the start. But he's battled his way into the team and is now a regular starter. Nadiem Amiri is a big talent who played particularly often at the end of the first half-season. Kevin Volland has developed brilliantly too. I'm delighted to have the chance to see the lads again."
…the personnel situation: "It'll still be a while for Oliver Baumann. When he's fit, then he'll obviously be back in goal. Freiburg might still be a bit too soon. We don't want to take any risks with him. Dennis Geiger has thigh problems and might be unavailable for a couple of weeks. As for Robert Skov and Håvard Nordtveit, I'm expecting them to be able to join in our training session today."
The social media fan question of the week:
TSG have scored considerably more second-half goals. How do you explain that?
"The lads are extremely fit and physically very strong. They believe in themselves and they're still raring to go towards the end of games too. We've already shown often this season that we can pose a danger in the latter stages. The team believes in itself."
The opposition's form:
Leverkusen have made a perfect start to the second half of the Bundesliga season, winning both their games by a combined scoreline of 7-1. Peter Bosz's team currently sit in fifth place with 34 points.
Head-to-head record:
Bayer 04 Leverkusen have been a bogey team for TSG over the years, as their head-to-head record of five wins, four draws and 14 defeats goes to show. However, Hoffenheim have lost only one of the last eight meetings (W4 D3).
