Hübner scores in Bremen draw

TSG kicked off 2018 with a draw against Werder Bremen. Benjamin Hübner headed Julian Nagelsmann’s men in front in an intense, fast-paced encounter, but Gebre Selassie’s second-half equaliser ensured a point for the hosts.

Line-up and tactics

With Nadiem Amiri and Kerem Demirbay ruled out injured, Julian Nagelsmann sent the following team out for the first competitive match of 2018: Oliver Baumann, Pavel Kaderabek, Ermin Bicakcic, Lukas Rupp, Florian Grillitsch, Steven Zuber, Mark Uth, Benjamin Hübner, Kevin Vogt, Serge Gnabry and Dennis Geiger.

The team lined up in 3-5-2 formation – Bickacic, Vogt and Hübner forming the back three ahead of Baumann in goal, supported by Kaderabek and Zuber bombing up and down on the wings. Grillitsch sat deep behind a midfield pair of Rupp and Geiger, while Uth and Gnabry led the line in attack.

Moment of the Match:

Ahead of Gebre Selassie’s equaliser, Bremen were awarded a corner that should have been a goal kick. The ball went out off Jerome Gondorf, not Steven Zuber.

Moment of the Match: 5

TSG extend their unbeaten run against Werder to five games. Two of those ended in Hoffenheim wins, the rest were draws.
