Nadiem Amiri extends TSG contract until 2020
“If you look at the number of clubs on the list of those interested in signing Nadiem then you can imagine what this extension means to Hoffenheim,” said Alexander Rosen, who first acquired Amiri to the TSG academy as a 15-year-old. “The mutual agreement between the two parties is also very exciting,” added the sporting director, who has recently been fighting for the long-term signature of the player.”
Rosen has declared the recent, ultimately successful talks as “a further indication that the club is on the look for young, ambitious players along with exciting challenges, international perspectives and a solid infrastructure with an exceptional coaching team, who are motivated to work for TSG. This whole package allows us to appear more attractive and look to extended our borders further. In recent weeks Oliver Baumann, Steven Zuber and Kerem Dermirbay have all penned new deals with TSG.
Coach Julian Nagelsmann also sees Nadiem Amiri as "a special player, because he has come through the TSG academy and calmly matured into a young professional of exceptional talent.” The TSG boss also does not think Amiri is done with his development adding “he is still getting better, and as a result it’s great that he will continue to do that here in the future.”
Amiri, who cut his footballing teeth on a run-down football pitch in Mundenheim, was excited about the next three years. “I want to repay the faith that’s been shown in me here. That’s my incentive. TSG has become a part of my home,” added Amiri. "It’s about my maturing process too, and having to deal with interest from other clubs. This is of course an honour to receive.” But it’s the relationship between himself and coach Julian Nagelsmann, who he also played under at academy level which swayed him. “I know exactly what I have here and hopefully I can continue to improve and develop that on an international stage.
Amiri and Nagelsmann were able to celebrate the German junior championship in 2014 after a 5-0 win over Hannover 96.
Amiri scored two goals that day and has gone on to find the net six times in 65 appearances, as well as playing three DFB Pokal games. His career path has followed that of TSG teammate Jeremy Toljan, who are both in the under-21 Germany squad for this summer’s Euros in Poland. DFB will play three games between June 18 and 24 against Czech Republic, Denmark and Italy. Amiri celebrated his league debut aged just 18 in February 2015 in a 3-0 defeat to VfL Wolfsburg.
