Amiri’s wonder goal earns TSG a point in Gladbach

The run goes on. TSG have made it twelve games unbeaten at the start of the Bundesliga season, as they claimed a 1-1 draw away at Borussia Mönchengladbach. Mahmoud Dahoud opened the scoring in the first half to put the hosts in front, but Nadiem Amiri’s second half effort from distance drew the teams level.

Personnel and Tactics:

Kevin Vogt and Kerem Demirbay were both unable to feature due to injury, with Fabian Schär coming in to join Niklas Süle and Benjamin Hübner in the three man back line in front of goalkeeper Oliver Baumann. Pavel Kaderabek and Steven Zuber kept their places in the team, while Sebastian Rudy and Eugen Polanski started in central midfield, with Nadiem Amiri dropping out. There was a change in the front line, too, as Adam Szalai was given a run out alongside Sandro Wagner. And Andrej Kramaric sitting deeper.

After his spell on the sidelines, Mark Uth was once again part of the squad, with Baris Atik making his second appearance in Julian Nagelsmann’s matchday squad. Uth and Amiri were brought on in the second half in the places of Schär and Szalai, pushing the three at the back setup to a more traditional four. Jeremy Toljan came on in the 58th minute for Zuber and took his place on the left side.

Moment of the Match:

Nadiem Amiri’s wonder-strike from distance was undoubtedly the highlight if the match for TSG. Introduced as a second half substitute just after the break, Amiri took only eight minutes to notch his fifth Bundesliga goal, slamming the ball past the helpless Yann Sommer from 25 yards. It was Amiri’s third goal after having come on as a substitute in games.

Number of the Match: 12

It was not three points, but it was another game without defeat for TSG, and for the eighth year, TSG did not manage a win on Matchday 12. "It is great to have this spell carrying on“ said Nagelsmann before the game – and his statement held just as much truth after it.
