Switzerland qualify for Euros, Süle and Toljan win with the U21s

Fabian Schär and his Switzerland team have booked their ticket to the 2016 European Championship in France, whilst Jeremy Toljan and Niklas Süle have continued successfully in their quest to qualify for the 2017 European U21 Championship in Poland. In other news, Philipp Ochs and Benedikt Gimber were also successful with the U19s.

There is a great sense of achievement for Switzerland and Fabian Schär. The Swiss national team secured the all-important final points to secure their qualification for EURO 2016 with a 7-0 win over San Marino. In a one-sided game, Hoffenheim player Schär played the full 90 minutes at centre back and was rarely troubled as his side celebrated a comfortable win.

Michael Lang began the rout in the 16th minute with the only goal of the first half. They pushed on in the second half with six goals, scored by Inler (penalty, 56'), Admir Mehmedi of Bayer Leverkusen (66'), Johannes Djourou (penalty, 72'), Pajtim Kasami (75'), Breel Donald Embolo (penalty, 80') and former Hoffenheim player Eren Derdiyok (89'). It will be the fourth time in history that Switzerland take part in the European Championship finals.

U21s convincing against Finland

Niklas Süle and Jeremy Toljan both featured in Germany's back four in their second European Championship qualifying game. The defenders were rarely challenged and did more going forward than at the back, particularly Toljan down the right. The Hoffenheim defender performed well, beating his man with a fine back-heel in the penalty area before feeding Leroy Sané to score the opener.

Three minutes later, Davie Selke of RB Leipzig scored Germany's second, whilst centre back Süle had an effort from long range himself. Toljan was impressive in the first half, providing good deliveries for his team mates, and Germany went into the break with a 3-0 lead when Joshua Kimmich scored their third in the 27th minute.

They continued in a similar vein in the second period, with a dominant performance going forward and an assuredness at the back. Niklas Süle prevented Finland from scoring with a great goal-line clearance on 56 minutes, and Toljan almost scored Germany's fourth goal ten minutes later, but his shot found the side netting.

The Germans closed the game out comfortably and Sané rounded off the scoring in added time. With the 4-0 win in the bag, the German U21 team travel to the Faroe Islands for their next qualifier on Tuesday.

U19S celebrate second win

The U19s ground out a hard-fought win against Mexico in the Elite Cup. Like against the USA, Hoffenheim players Philipp Ochs and Benedikt Gimber started, and after a commanding victory over the Americans, Marcus Sorg's team had to contend with a defensively strong Mexico side.
After a goalless first half, an Enis Bunjaki penalty was enough to secure the win for Germany. They lead the table with six points from two games, with Scotland (four points), USA (one) and Mexico (zero) following behind. The U19s play their final game of the tournament against Scotland next Monday.
