Augsburg match reaction

Here’s what everyone had to say about the 3-1 victory for TSG in Augsburg.

Markus Gisdol: It was a very difficult game to start with. The atmosphere in the stadium was quite intimidating. Then we took the lead after a bit of individual brilliance, but sat back too much after that and lacked sharpness. At half time we sorted it out and in the second half, luck was finally on our side. That’s sometimes how you have to win away games. It was a great effort by my team, they showed great determination. We’re all very happy and the win gives us more strength going forward.

Markus Weinzierl: We’re not happy. We created a lot of chances, but we have to put the ball in the net. That didn’t happen enough today. We made far too many basic errors which led to their goals. I did see a decent performance by my team for large spells of the game though, and we would definitely have deserved a point today.

Kevin Volland: The win is good for us; it’s good to finally be enjoying three points again. If you take a look back at the past few weeks, we especially lost a lot of points in the second half of games. Often, we scored the first goal and then fell apart later. We wanted to throw everything at them today, everything we still had left in us after a busy week that is. After taking the lead in the first half, we didn’t defend very well and Augsburg looked like running away with it. But in the second half, we pushed forward a lot better and were a much tighter unit. We showed some good attacking football again today as well.

Jonathan Schmid: The first half wasn’t too good from us, because despite taking the lead, we spent most of the time defending far too deep. In the second half, everything was clearly better. We fought back well as a team and dug out the victory.

Eugen Polanski: I don’t know why it’s taken us so long to get our first win. But today we just clicked. We got the three points today, and that’s all that matters.

Alexander Rosen: The situation before the game today was not favourable for us. We were rightly praised after the Dortmund game, put in a good performance, but still only had two points on the board. That was visible in the first half. After taking the lead we looked vulnerable at the back. But in the second half, and then especially after the second goal we could see that the opposition were rattled.
