Tobias Strobl: “The concentration you need in golf is crazy”
Hello, Tobias. You've had two days off recently. What did you do with your time?
Tobias Strobl: We took a quick flight to Munich in order to go to Oktoberfest. It was particularly nice for me as I was born in Munich. We had a great evening and I saw some of my family and friends.
That was definitely not your first visit to Oktoberfest.
Strobl: That's right. But it was the first one this year. I basically grew up at Oktoberfest and I feel at home there. It was really nice.
You're also a keen golfer. Did you spend some of your time playing?
Strobl: I didn't play but on Sunday I sat on the sofa and watched the last day of the Ryder Cup (Europe against the USA) on the TV. It was good that Europe won.
What fascinates you about golf?
Strobl: Mostly the concentration you need. It has to be right for every shot otherwise you lose your rhythm. It's crazy. It's not physically demanding but it's very intense mentally. For me, it's a distraction where I can have fun.
Golf can also be very frustrating…
Strobl: Oh yes, you can become really annoyed but you have to control yourself.
Back to football. You have already played as a centre back, a full back and a holding midfielder. Where do you prefer playing the most?
Strobl: It doesn't matter to me. The manager tells me where to play and I help the team. It doesn't matter where, just as long as I play to the best of my ability.
