USA held by Guatemala
Jürgen Klinsmann's USA team hit a minor speed-bump in their 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign as they were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by Guatemala. TSG 1899 Hoffenheim winger Fabian Johnson was one of the better performers setting up a goal for Clint Dempsey.
In a similar fashion to the 3-1 success over Antigua and Barbuda last weekend, it was the USA that emerged quickest out of the blocks and a strong first-half performance was rewarded with a Dempsey strike on 40 minutes after great approach play from Johnson. But a second goal proved elusive for the Americans and they were pegged back close to full-time, when Marco Pappa curled in a free-kick. Hoffenheim's Daniel Williams was watching from the stands as he has not yet recovered from back and calf problems.
The next competitive game for USA is on September 7th against Jamaica.
